MARYLAND STATE ARTS COUNCIL ANNOUNCES SECOND ANNUAL MARYLAND TRADITIONS FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL: JUNE 16, 2012

 

WHAT:            Maryland Traditions, a program of the Maryland State Arts Council, will present the Maryland Traditions Folklife Festival, a free, day-long celebration of traditional artists and musicians from around the state. Named “Baltimore’s Best Arts Showcase” (Baltimore Magazine) in 2011, this interactive, family-friendly festival will engage audiences of all ages with performances, demonstrations and workshops that showcase the talents and practices of Maryland’s traditional art masters and their apprentices.

Free parking and shuttle services will be provided.

WHO:              Maryland’s traditional art masters and their apprentices performing, teaching and demonstrating a diverse array of traditional arts, including Mexican yarn art, Ukrainian egg decorating, painted screens, decoy carving, quilting, salsa dancing and much more, along with distinctive Maryland food and crafts vendors.

 

A full program and artist line-up will be announced in April.

 

WHY:               For more than ten years, Maryland Traditions has collaborated with partners across the state to document, promote and celebrate Maryland’s unique traditional culture. The programs, events and grant opportunities supported by Maryland Traditions enrich communities across Maryland by preserving and promoting the traditional arts.
