Artist's Statement

From painting and drawing, to collage, and photography, my artwork expresses responses to both internal and external worlds. For years, I found only sporadic opportunities to create while working part-time, teaching varied classes, and family obligations. When I first began to reclaim time as an artist, my work was impassioned, essential, and sometimes frantic. As I sort through ways to synthesize art, service to the community, and family-life, I continue to use a variety of media to convey my fascination with the natural world. I seek to use visual methods to show what is unseen through what can be seen. This includes expressing my own emotions, and a desire to demonstrate deeper realities. Through my personal artwork and through the Expressive Art Workshops that I facilitate, I hope to encourage an interest in art, the natural world, and examination of the unseen.
