Artist's Statement

My mission as an artist is to educate as much as it is to entertain. Passion comes only with understanding, and therefore it has become my passion to help others understand the music I so love and cherish. The stories of history, the nuances of music and the symbolism of poetry, the connections across genres and cultures and politics -- these enrich the experience of performance for audiences from something pleasant to something meaningful. I find it particularly necessary to promote and foster an understanding of American culture, amidst all of its beautiful diversity.
