Janice the Griot promotes and perpetuates the art of Blackstorytelling--an art form that embodies the history, heritage, and culture of African Americans. Black storytellers educate and entertain through the Oral Tradition, which depicts and documents the African-American experience. Through my Storytelling, I preserve and pass on the folklore, legends, myths, fables, and mores of Africans and their descendants and ancestors - "In the Tradition..."
About the Artist
Janice Curtis Greene is an award-winning Author, Master Storyteller and Historical Interpreter, an American Griot. She has been telling African, African American, and Multicultural stories for over 30 years. She is Past President of the Griots' Circle of Maryland, Inc. and Immediate Past President of the National Association of Black Storytellers. Mrs. Greene, also, serves as a Commissioner on the Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture. Janice the Griot has delighted adult and student audiences at schools, colleges, libraries, hospitals, churches, festivals, and various gatherings nationally and internationally. Mrs. Greene mesmerizes her audiences with educational and interactive folktales, songs, dance, audience participation, puppets, and original stories. Her historical Underground Railroad and motivational Fly with Eagles are some of the most popular programs. Janice has narrated with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and is also known for her portrayals of historical African American females. such as Harriett Tubman, Rosa Parks, Phillis Wheatley and more.
