About the Artist
James Patrick Sheehan lives in Baltimore City. His produced plays include one-acts Holidays In, Ball Lightning and Urban Pioneers; full-length comedies R.G.B. and Random Dríft, or the Finches of Galapagos; and the two-man show Wicked Pudding (co-written with Ed Valentine). His plays have been presented in New York, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and Baltimore.
He also has written libretti for two chamber operas, Dummy (Gil Kline, composer)and The Window Seat (Kendall Kennison, composer), both of which received premieres at Goucher College.
With puppeteer Jeanine Padgett he created several pieces for the puppet stage and received a 2013 Seed Grant from the Jim Henson Foundation to adapt the Jakov Lind novella Soul of Wood for puppets. As an actor, he appeared in numerous productions in the Washington, D.C., theater community, including The Death of Humpty Dumpty (Church Street Theater), Table Settings (Theater J), and The Dog Plays (Potomac Theatre Project).
A recipient of Maryland State Arts Council lndividual Artist Awards in Playwriting in 2007, 2013, and 2018, Jim earned his MFA in playwriting from Catholic University and taught as an adjunct lecturer in playwriting for several years at Goucher College. He is manager of marketing and development communications for the Johns Hopkins School of Education.
