Public art is the center of my artistic interests. Each public artwork is specifically created for the concept, theme, and purpose of the project. No work is ever duplicated. It is my choice not to develop a personal signature style but to create work that both honors and emphasizes the project’s goal. Creating a public artwork is creating a gift for a community. I am the guardian and defender of aesthetic value but the art belongs to the community. Sometimes the uniqueness of my sculptures has worked against me. You will not be able to look at my past work and determine what I will design for this project. However, you will be able to recognize quality craftsmanship and unique design. While each of my works visually stands alone, having additional knowledge of the site, history, and project specifics enhances the appreciation of the work. The communities that live with my work have this additional knowledge. They have become the caretakers and proctors. Each work symbolically signifies a celebration of life and a belief in the future for each community. People have planted flowers and stood next to these sculptures for their wedding pictures. In recent years I have become active and involved in urban planning and the significant role public art can play. Before moving to the DC area I was on the Public Art Committee for the Chamber of Commerce in Amarillo, TX. Currently I am serving on the Montgomery Public Art Review Board and have served on several review panels for the DC Commission. These public art administrative experiences have put me on the other side of the public art fence and have given me essential insight. I am very aware of long-term issues, public acceptance and reactions, financial accountability, and an artist’s responsibility to coordinate and be responsive to the team as well as the community. A background in design/construction, education and 41 commissions for public art have provided me with the skills, knowledge, and experience that is necessary for public art projects. What I offer is a life long commitment to public art, public art that is unique and project specific… work that strengthens a community’s identity, creates a sense of place, and brings joy to those who view it.Featured Work

The Winged Chariot
stainless steel & resin
2015
The Winged Chariot was created for the Tyler Park Center for Arts to be place in the agricultural field next to the center. The Winged Chariot tells a story and is symbolically linked to our ancient past as well as our future. It is a metaphor for the power of time and celebration. An ancient Greek myth tells of Triptolemus flying around Greece in his winged chariot teaching the art of agriculture. The Winged Chariot with its front plow and wings of flight celebrates the people of our earth who explored the unknown...telling a story of breaking new ground, sharing knowledge and exploration.
Pluto, The Outer Reach
stainless steel & copper
2005
Pluto is the second of ten sculptures to be installed for the Planet Walk project. The Pluto station can be either the beginning or the end to the Planet Walk. Like the Sun, Pluto serves as a gateway. As a gateway, the sculpture illustrates our solar system with the orbits of the nine planets depicted by rings circling a copper sphere, the sun. Pluto is illustrated by the black sphere on the outer ring.
Spectrum
stainless steel & resin
2004
Spectrum is the sculptural essence of the sun with forty prisms that uses the sun’s light to produce spectrums of color. Spectrum is the first of 10 sculptures for Planet Walk. Each sculpture is to be unique and give visual form to the essence of each planet.Forty prisms are in the center of the hub of Spectrum. Rainbows are cast on the ground and surrounding area when the sun shines through the prisms.
The Windows on Arts Alley
stainless steel & resin
2005
The Windows on Arts Alley were designed in coordination with the revitalizing of an alley into a pedestrian friendly out-door market with entrances to restaurants and other business. The structures reflect the industrial history of the area coupled with the new bright colors of the future. With the light of the sun the colored resin reflects Mondrian type patterns onto the walls and paving of the alley.
The Takoma Trees @ Grant
stainless steel & prisms
2012
The Takoma Trees form the gateway for the city’s central park. This community is dedicated to the preservation of its trees. Within each “branch” of the trees is a series of prisms. As the light of the sun moves through these prisms rainbows will be cast upon the ground. Can you find the birds of Takoma Park?
The Butterfly Tree
stainless steel
2013
The Butterfly Tree is the iconic symbol for the community of Fort Washington, MD. For this primarily African American community the butterfly is symbolic of the community’s growth and the “breaking out” of old bonds and creating new lives. The tree emblematically rises from the seeds once planted in the community garden where the Tech Rec now stands. The community reached back to the roots of the community garden and surrounded the tree with a specially planted garden of flowers creating a habitat for the Monarch butterflies on their migratory path.
