About the Artist

Marcel Martin bka "Kariz Marcel" is a New York-born, Baltimore-Virginia raised music producer and social entrepreneur. His roots sprouted from 90’s Hip-Hop, Go-Go (DC) and Baltimore Club Music. In 2008 he founded Kariz Kids Youth Enrichment Services. A after school program that took place in Baltimore, DC and New York during it 10 years in business.  After being one of over 4000 applicants, he made it to the final 25 for the 2019 One Beat Program,  an international cultural diplomacy exchange program partnering with the US State Department that brings musicians together from around the world to share and collaborate on musical ideas and projects. In 2018 he landed a major music placement on Jidenna's '85 To Africa' album. The song is entitled 'Sou Sou'. Co- produced by 7G, a young prodigy that was once his student in Kariz Kids.    MY CV/RESUME:

This piece demonstrates my passion for space and design. This project was called "The Beach". The intent behind this project was to recreate the famous Bob Marley's tuff gong studio in Kingston Jamaica. I wanted the space to feel and look like a time in place before we were oppressed, before capitalism took over music, before music was free. I wanted to build a space that always felt like a vacation from your traditional creative environments, thus the name "The Beach". This room is divided into 3 sections; The sand (The control room), "The Sun"- The live music area and the Cabana, The Booth.

In the tradition of family, we pray their village leads them safely to the others love. Will they? Executive produced by BlackShesus and musically scored by Kariz Marcel this break out silent film will challenge your perception of dialogue, love, and Blackness.

    MATH + MUSIC=MONEY is a financial literacy curriculum incorporating music production with a holistic approach and a focus on mathematic comprehension using common core standards. Utilizing a portable fully equipped recording production studio and structuring the classroom like a production company allows the students to become familiar with business and financial responsibility. Youth will learn how to produce and create original instrumentals, format and structure a song, operate recording software, and manage financial accounts. This is a fun, productive and blended learning module with a goal of building self confidence by developing creative abilities and enhancing academic skill sets.

    A album fully produced by Kariz Marcel featuring over 40 artists, teaching artists, and musicians from Baltimore. This project started in the height of the Freddy Grey riots. I began calling musicians over my house to create "revolutionary Party Music". These were difficult times for our city. As artists and music makers the best way we could translate our emotions was to record! This is what came out of a 2.5 year project.
