I am an engaging, passionate performer committed to enabling audiences to experience classical music in fresh, meaningful ways. While I have performed at some of the world’s most renowned concert halls including Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, I am aware of the critical need for the classical music industry to re-examine its traditions and come up with creative initiatives to reach diverse communities.
As an artist, I am committed to accessibility and education. I am equally comfortable performing in a concert hall as in unconventional venues such as libraries, community centers, bars, private homes, historical societies, and outdoors. From 2017 to 2018 I toured the country as part of a piano trio, performing in maximum security prisons in Texas, Florida, Arizona, and New England. Central to my artistic vision is the goal of demystifying classical music so that anyone can enjoy my performances, regardless of whether he or she has any prior knowledge or experience. My performances feature talking with the audience to bring them into the world of the composer and provide context and information to enhance their enjoyment of the music. An enthusiastic and passionate teacher, I love sharing my music with students. I have led numerous workshops and engagement programs, both in person and virtual, with students around the country, most recently in Prince George's County, MD and Carroll County, MD.
About the Artist
Versatile violinist Madeleine Jansen, hailing from Mount Airy, Maryland, has been praised by the San Francisco Classical Voice for her interpretation of composers from Dvorak to Brubeck. Her multi-faceted career as a performer and educator has brought her around the United States and abroad, where she has appeared in a diverse array of venues ranging from prisons to the world’s most prestigious concert halls. As a soloist, Madeleine has performed in Carnegie Hall alongside principals from the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra as well as at the United Nations Headquarters, Capitol Hill, St. Peters Church (Wall Street) and Flushing Town Hall. A passionate chamber musician, Madeleine has performed as a guest artist at the Ouluska Pass Chamber Music Festival (Saranac Lake, NY), UMass Amherst Bach Festival (Amherst, MA), Five Colleges New Music Festival (Amherst, MA), Ithaca New Music Collective series (Ithaca, NY) and Luzerne Music Center Chamber Music Festival (Adirondacks, NY). Her enthusiasm for connecting with audiences has led her to organize and execute dozens of chamber music concerts and recitals around the East Coast as well as countless outreach programs at schools, nursing homes, and community centers. Madeleine has led performances as concertmaster with the University of Maryland Symphony Orchestra, the Bach Cantata Series at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, the UMass Amherst Symphony Orchestra, and at Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall. Most recently, Madeleine co-founded Arco, an un-conducted orchestra project dedicated to performing engaging and diverse programs in the greater D.C. area. An advocate for new music, Madeleine has worked with numerous contemporary composers to bring their works to life on the concert stage. In 2021, Madeleine will premiere a work for unaccompanied violin written for her by Kurdish-Canadian composer Rizgar Ismael. Beyond classical music, she has performed with Rod Stewart, Josh Groban, Michael Buble, Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman, and on NBC’s Today Show. As an educator, Madeleine is committed to mentoring the next generation of musicians and audience members. She currently serves as violin faculty and string department coordinator at the Luzerne Music Center (New York), and previously taught at Interlochen Arts Camp. Madeleine studied at Boston University, Royal College of Music (London), and UMass Amherst, and is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Maryland. She performs on a modern (2015) violin by American luthier Daniel Arlig.Featured Work
