Margo Lehman

Painting, Visual / Media

I live between worlds often seen as opposites. Science and faith. art and craft. I find my most kindred spirits among the trees, for they too, live between worlds, alone and in community. The trees have much to teach us. I invite you to join me in that space in between. Follow me, into the woods.

About the Artist

I am a lifelong resident of Maryland, with my art career as a "second act", after decades of being a mom and an accountant. I am a representational painter, working primarily in two mediums, oil paint and wool. These two mediums allow me a broader spectrum of techniques to paint my subjects, most often landscapes and trees, which I elevate to the level of spiritual mentors for us all. I am a recent graduate of the Master Artist Program at The Compass Atelier and have taken numerous felting classes from felt masters in the United States and abroad.

Artist's Statement

In addition to traditional methods of oil painting, I also paint with wool, starting at times from the raw wool recently sheared from the sheep, and other times from fluffy bats of combed wool, already dyed. I sometimes add other fibers such as silk and bamboo to create added luster and texture. Using both ancient and modern techniques of felting the wool, I create an art piece that is fabric, sculpture and image all at the same time.
