About the Artist
Artist Bio - Marjorie Blystone An ‘eye’ for color and design led Margie into jobs Decorating Homes and Offices, Designing Invitations & Announcements and Teaching Scrapbooking Workshops throughout the Delaware Valley, most notably at the Winterthur Museum. All of which have contributed greatly to her growth as an artist. Margie’s latest work ‘Zen-Feathers’, stems from her love of fine point pen & ink work. Through her study of the art form known as Zentangles®, Margie developed a unique style incorporating the beauty and natural form of feathers, along with the geometric patterns prevalent in Zentangles®. As a means of taking ‘Zen-Feathers’ to another level, Margie began incorporating her artwork to both clear and colored glass items, adding a further dimension of light and depth to her work. Margie currently works with the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) serving as Chairman of Elkton’s Arts & Entertainment District and is a Board Member of The Elkton Chamber & Alliance, serving as Design Committee Chairman.Artist's Statement
Art is both a terrifying and exhilarating process. Terrifying because each time I endeavor to create new work I must first engage my inner coach who fires me up with confidence building adages such as, “You’ve got this!”, “It’s gonna be Great!” and “You can do it!” (It’s always easier, though much less rewarding, to start a load of laundry or empty the dishwasher.) I seldom begin a project with the notion I’ll be pleased with the outcome. In fact, any time I have gone in with that attitude the results were beyond disappointing. Therefore I’m of the opinion my best work is derived from equal parts courage and humility. This collection I refer to as ‘Zen-Feathers’, stems from my love of fine point pen & ink work. Through the study of the art form known as Zentangles®, I developed a unique style incorporating the beauty and natural form of feathers, along with the geometric patterns prevalent in Zentangles®. As a means of taking ‘Zen-Feathers’ to another level, I began introducing both clear and colored glass items, adding a further dimension of light and depth to my work. Each piece of artwork is a hand drawn original, created with high quality, acid-free art supplies. From the moment a mental picture begs to become tangible, to the process of painstakingly bringing the piece to life, I find the creative process a fascinating and often frustrating mystery. Aside from the joy and angst, the most rewarding aspect of creating art is when someone connects with my work.Featured Work
