About the Artist

Mary Ruth McGinn   has spent her career of thirty-four years utilizing the arts as a vehicle for learning in the classroom. As an elementary school teacher, Mary Ruth sought innovative ways to meet the needs of her diverse students. In 2006, Mary Ruth was granted a Fulbright Scholarship to travel to Spain to develop and implement a similar program there. As Cofounder of LÓVA: La Ópera: Un Vehículo de Aprendizaje, she returns every summer to the Teatro Real in Madrid to teach a new team of educators. In 2018, she joined forces with The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC to offer a comprehensive opera training course for teachers in the Washington metro area. Mary Ruth currently conducts school residencies incorporating original poetry, music and theater. Mary Ruth believes that we all should engage in meaningful, real life experiences that connect us with the world beyond our immediate environment and inspire us to be a part of something bigger than ourselves.
