About the Artist

Phillip Carter   Stellar Award Winner Phillip Carter has rapidly risen to national and international acclaim status as an anointed gospel recording artist and songwriter, accomplished musician, talented producer and director, noted consultant, conference founder, and mentor. Phillip and his group, Sounds of Victory (SOV), are the 2010 Stellar Award Winners for Fan Favorite Choir of the Year. Phillip produced the 2010 Stellar Award Winner for Children’s Performance of the Year, “Amazing” by Dr. Emory Andrews and the Oxon Hill High School Gospel Choir.  In 2015, he produced the chart-topping Maranatha Top #25 Gospel Praise Songs and Top #15 Gospel Praise Hits projects.    A native of Fort Washington, MD, Phillip began playing the piano at 18 months, and began directing choirs when he was nine. He is the current Director of the Georgetown University Choir, and is the former Director of the Bowie State University Gospel Choir and former Assistant Director of the Howard University Gospel Choir. Phillip serves as a music consultant for four churches in the Washington DC metropolitan area, and has facilitated workshops specializing in church and choir ministry for many churches across the United States. Phillip continues to be a positive influence in the lives of the youth as a mentor, as a former music and choral teacher at public schools in Washington, D.C. and Prince George’s County, MD, and as a current music and technology teacher in Fairfax County, VA. He is a sought-after youth motivational speaker and has delivered inspiring messages in schools as far away as Ontario, Canada. As an artist and musician, Phillip has shared the stage with many of the world’s most celebrated Gospel artists, including Dorinda Clark-Cole, Deitrick Haddon, Edwin Hawkins, Lady Tramaine Hawkins, the late Walter Hawkins, David and Tamela Mann, Richard Smallwood, Tye Tribbett, Albertina Walker, and the late Pastor Timothy Wright.  Phillip Carter and SOV, now in their 21st year of ministry, have traveled the United States and the world spreading the good news of Jesus Christ through song.  In 2016, Phillip recorded his first international project live in Sulwalki, Poland with a 25-piece orchestra and a 75-voice choir.  Phillip Carter and SOV released their sixth live album entitled, “Live From Zion” also in 2016 and “Christmas With Phillip Carter and SOV” in 2017. Phillip takes the time to help others in his independent artist and songwriter community. In 2010, Phillip co-founded the Independent Gospel Artists Alliance (IGAA) Conference, an annual 3-day conference that educates independent artists on topics to effectively manage their business and career.  In 2016, he co-founded the bi-annual Bring Back the Choir New Music Forum that introduces songwriters to choir directors and ministers of music.  In 2017, The Lord called Phillip to organize and unite the musicians and singers in the Washington DC metropolitan area resulting in the formation of the DMV Musicians and Singers Fellowship.  It hosts four events a year, including two banquets that honor musicians and singers who have and are currently serving in the community.  Also in 2017, Phillip became president of the DMV chapter of the Alliance of Gospel Music Professionals, a division of the Gospel Music Workshop of America.  The Alliance unites local Gospel music professionals in media, marketing, and church music leaders to be a source of education for Gospel artists. Phillip serves as President and CEO of SOV, Inc. and Phillip Carter Music. He’s married to Stephanie Carter and has two wonderful sons: Stephen, age 14, and Thomas, age 12.
