About this Organization

Imagination Stage is a holistic theatre arts organization for all children and youth. Using theatre productions and educational workshops to bridge cultural divides and lift up underrepresented voices, Imagination Stage’s Theatre for Change program explores complex social justice issues to help build a new generation of compassionate, collaborative children who are capable of changing the world.

Services/Opportunities

10 SECONDS is a modern drama that depicts events surrounding policing and young people. This play was written by Miriam Gonzales and is based on conversations and discoveries from two years of workshops with police officers and young people. This tour will feature performances from a cast of talented professional actors as well as a post show workshop surrounding the themes and characters of the play.

In a world where deeply rooted biases and misperceptions easily take hold, life can often feel unnerving—and can change for better or worse in a blink of an eye, depending on how we see each other. In this play, we see through the eyes of Washington, DC high school students Ray and Jimi, who navigate their young adult worlds and what it means to be young black men in the city. Ray tells the story of a day that he and Jimi will never forget, sharing not only their perspectives, but also the views of the police they encounter.

Booking Price: $500-$1,000

Imagination Stage's Theatre for Change 10 SECONDS tour is recommended for school groups of around 150 students, community centers, and public performance spaces primarily serving Middle and High Schools ages. These performances include an interactive follow-up discussion/ workshop. Discussions are led by a professional facilitator who unpacks the themes of the show in a creative and interactive format. Community and college groups have follow-up panel discussions featuring members of the creative team, members of county or city leadership, and experts in fields such as police reform or youth development.

This production requires a 25x25 ft. space with at least a 10 foot high ceiling. Sound and lighting equipment provided by the venue is preferred but Imagination Stage is also able to supply a speaker if necessary. Microphones are not required but performers will need a space separate from the audience to secure personal belongings and prepare for the show.
