Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET)

MET is a professional, collaborative theatre ensemble broadly connected to our community by inspiring passion for the arts with courageous, relevant, accessible programs that enable people to feel more, think deeper, and laugh longer.

About this Organization

MET and its Founders Tad Janes & Gené Fouché have spearheaded the growth of MET from an improv troupe of young comics called the Comedy Pigs who performed in the back of local Frederick, MD bars in the late 90’s into a community stronghold.   From a humble beginning, both the theatre and the community it serves, has grown significantly over the course of 20+ years. MET now boasts fully programmed professional theatre with both a 90+ seat mainstage & 60+ seat Theatre for Young Audience (Fun Company) stage, occupying 13,000 square feet of space in the lower level of the historic FSK Hotel in the downtown Arts & Entertainment district of Frederick, MD.   MET also houses The Ensemble School with a full slate of offerings for youth, teen, and adult students; in-school education programming (Fun Company In School) with a strong focus on serving disadvantaged students in Frederick County MD.; 8 weeks of summer camps for students aged 3-17; umbrella programs (MET-X, MET Works & MET Lab) which serve as a vehicle for both our company members and burgeoning playwrights to bring challenging and, often, new and original works and, beginning this year, fully programmed Friday & Saturday nights of both resident and visiting comedy groups (MET Comedy Nights), including very own Comedy Pigs.   Over the last 21 years, MET has worked as an independent organization and through community partnerships to serve the Frederick, MD. community by increasing the accessibility and variety of quality theatre arts opportunities.  MET has produced over 200 full-length plays; taught over 16,000 students; and is/has been a community partner with SHIP, Fred. City Police, Heartly House, Way Station, Goodwill, FCC, Hood, Police Activities League, Big Brother/Sisters, Boy/Girls Club, Rotary Club of Carroll Creek, Centro Hispano, Latinos Unidos de Frederick, Frederick Alliance for Youth, Hope Six project and Hospice of Frederick County.   MET not only provides all of these robust programs to Frederick residents but also feeds the life cycle of the arts and its patronage, by promoting the work of emerging artists and audiences to create life-long theater supporters. Having a dedicated grant-writer will allow us to seek additional funds that will support our continued growth and outreach to the benefit of our community.
