The Sonatina Center

As a culturally-centered practice, it is our mission to holistically support each individual by providing creative arts therapies through a  culturally & contextually-aware lens. We value the arts and their natural place in healthcare. We strive to empower individuals of all ages through creative self-expression and promote the development of healthy relationships. We are devoted to our clients, our community and our own. We are family members ourselves, and employment with The Sonatina Center means being part of a family unit. In addition to helping our client families grow and develop, The Sonatina Center is devoted to the growth and development of each provider. Whether an employee, intern, or volunteer, continuing education and research-based practice lay the foundation for our work. We are committed to the growth of our profession and actively advocate for creative arts therapies in health care.  As a practice, we strive to design and implement effective therapeutic techniques that meet the client where they are, and co-create goals with clients for where they wish to go. Our goal is to act in the best interests of the individuals being served, under all circumstances, giving unconditional acceptance to clients in a safe, supportive and comfortable environment. We believe that each individual has a unique set of strengths, and we use these strengths to co-create individualized goals for therapy leading to positive experiences and growth. Exploring the cultural context of each individual’s lived experience and personhood is an indispensable part of therapy. We are committed to advocating for social justice and work hard to ensure that we do not silently condone the actions of others through our own inactions. We are committed to having tough conversations openly, honestly and without judgement. We are an anti-racist and LGBTQIA+ affirming workplace. We openly accommodate disabled music therapists who may seek employment here. Each member of the team actively practices reflexivity and is committed to the ongoing improvement of our own multi-cultural competencies as helping professionals, taking actions that actively support the Black community, minoritized communities and antiracist work.  We are committed to continually educating the public on the applications and outcomes of creative arts therapy and promoting the proven therapeutic value of professionally administered music and art therapy services from an educationally qualified and clinically trained therapist. We strive to maintain a high degree of professionalism and integrity, keep current on research, trends, repertoire, and techniques.

All prospective and new clients of The Sonatina Center will begin the intake process with a thirty (30) minute consultation. This is typically done over the phone with our Clinical Services Coordinator who will review our process and policies with you, as well as gather information to determine if music therapy may be a good fit. The consultation serves as an opportunity for the new client to ask questions about services and gain a deeper understanding of the therapy process.
