Born in Taiwan, Jing-Jy Chen received a BA in Chinese literature from Taiwan Normal University and a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Rochester. She started Chinese painting during her college years. She exquisitely portrays images of wildlife and nature through her delicate watercolor technique and keeps with Chinese tradition by using written characters and red signatures. The subtle strokes, simple lines, and limited color areas create an excellent sense of negative space. Her work has a graceful fluidity and the refined but fragile beauty and mystical quality of her renderings invites viewers into the story and presents them with new vistas.
