Artist StatementI paint because I can’t remember a time when I didn’t. The need for a cathartic confessional outlet leads me to illustrate my thoughts, experiences and life’s enigmas in a figurative collage of symbols—a narrative code so to speak. Painting in layers with gouache, inks and pencil on illustration board as I once did as a graphic artist, allows me the kind of predictability I need to reveal the details behind the spatters of images in my minds eye.
I attended Maryland College of Art and Design graduated with a Associates degree in 1983. Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore where I studied for one year; continued my education at Johns Hopkins University College for a Masters Certificate in Graphic Design. I worked in the Graphic Design industry for 25 years.
I’m a career employee for MNCPPC, Arts and Cultural Heritage Division at Montpelier Arts Center in Laurel Maryland. I am the Principal Administrative Assistant and Curator.
