Zemer Chai, whose name means “living song,” is dedicated to sharing the rich musical heritage of the Jewish people at the highest level. Praised by the Washington Post as "singing passionately with utter precision," Zemer Chai sings the full range of Jewish choral repertoire, from classical and liturgical pieces to commissioned works and folk music from around the world. Founded by conductor Eleanor Epstein in 1976, Zemer Chai brings together singers from all walks of Jewish life who share a commitment to performing this music with soul and authenticity. Zemer Chai has performed at the White House, Library of Congress, Strathmore and Kennedy Center, as well as in concert halls in Boston, Philadelphia, New York and throughout Israel. An integral part of the Greater Washington, D.C. community, Zemer Chai takes pride in building bridges to other faiths and cultures, attracting audiences of many backgrounds and participating in numerous intercultural events. The choir’s acclaimed recording, Same Earth Same Sky, is a collection of choral settings of Jewish folk songs from around the world.
