About the Artist

Adele Schmidt is a multifaceted professional with expertise in media production, documentary filmmaking, and Film and Media Arts education. She co-founded and currently serves as the artistic director of Docs In Progress, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering community through the art of documentary filmmaking. In addition to her nonprofit work, Adele has been a professorial lecturer at American University in Washington DC since 2009, where she teaches courses in Film and Video Production and Developing Non-Fiction Productions. She has contributed to the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, MD, by participating as a panelist in the evaluation of applications spanning the fields of writing, history, and media arts. Her expertise has also been recognized at the state level, as she has served as a panelist for the Maryland State Arts Council. Adele Schmidt is the managing partner of Zeitgeist Media LLC, a MD-based production company known for its documentary series "Romantic Warriors – A Progressive Music Saga," which includes the Krautrock Trilogy. Her films have won several awards, such as an Emmy Award, The Telly Awards, the Gabriel Award, and TIVA-DC Awards. They've been shown on TV, at festivals, and on streaming platforms. Beyond her extensive 20-year career in filmmaking, Adele's true calling lies in education. She is passionately dedicated to disseminating knowledge, facilitating access, and promoting the richness of diverse cultures and perspectives. Her international background serves as a testament to her ability to truly appreciate and value a wide range of viewpoints and life experiences. Adele holds a master's degree in political science from the University in Bonn, Germany, and a BS Film Degree from the National Center of the Arts in Mexico City. On occasion, she also collaborates with foreign journalists on news stories about American policy through the U.S. State Department's Foreign Press Center's Media Co-Op Program. Adele, originally from Germany, is fluent in Spanish.
