Andrei Trach

About the Artist

Andrei Trach was born in Staten Island, New York. He has studied and exhibited in New York City at the New York Studio Program in Soho. He received his B.F.A. from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1995. In 1996 he had a seventy five-piece Solo Exhibition at the University of Baltimore Law School. Mr. Trach’s work has been featured in many juried shows. In 1999 he exhibited at the Benjamin Banneker Museum in “Ellicott City, Catonsville, Oella Arts.” Trach’s work was published in Seafood Business Magazine in 1999. Trach has also exhibited in invitational shows such as “The 2003 Annapolis Art Show”. In 2004 he had a retrospective solo exhibition at Mill River Gallery in Ellicott City, MD. A few of his latest group exhibits were at the “Columbia Festival of the Arts Silent Auction” in Columbia, MD in 2017 and “Art Maryland 2016” at the Howard County Center for the Arts. In 2003 his work was featured in “Artworks This Week” on Maryland Public Television. He has received numerous awards for his art. In 1994 he received a Merit Award from Baltimore artist Raoul Middleman in the “Emerging Artists Exhibit” at the Gallery on the Circle. In 1999 he received First Prize in “The Laurel Art Guild’s Spring Show at Quiet Waters. And more recently he was awarded honorable mention from Baltimore Museum of Art Director Christopher Bedford in Art Maryland 2016. His large-scale sculpture “Vainglorious Bluebird,” is on permanent display at Centennial Park in Hyattsville, MD. His last solo exhibit, “Primal Ambition” was at the Montpelier Art Center in Laurel, MD in 2015. He last exhibited in Art Howard County 2017 at the Howard County Center for the Arts where he was awarded Honorable Mention by Baltimore Museum of Art Director Christopher Bedford. Andrei Trach maintains a studio at the Howard County Center for the Arts in Ellicott City, MD.

Artist's Statement

My paintings and drawings are allegorical and narrative with personal and social emphasis. Themes are many times open ended with multi meanings and suggestions for the viewer as well as myself. Ambiguity and mystery are common in my work. Symbolism is evident whenever it appears in landscapes, still lives, figures, portraits, interiors, or abstractions. These subjects and symbols are the vehicle for visions with a dreamlike quality. I many times use a large variety of drawing and paintings mediums within one drawing or painting. Moods and ideas are expressed through color, texture, and movement. The techniques I use include hands, fingers, and brushes applied with differing angles, pressures and speeds. The tactile nature of thick, action filled paint strokes often brings strong reaction from the viewer. Each work has a distinct orientation as to distance and angles enabling us to view an optical mix of colors and textures. Three-dimensional aspects accent the dramatic and the bold in my work. I would describe my artwork as a response and expression to the world around me.
