About the Artist
Ann Farley’s art is shaped by her time on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, the Florida Panhandle, and the coast of North Carolina. She currently creates in quaint colonial Chestertown.
Ann is a business consultant, educator, and environmental advocate. She has a BS in biology from Duke University and an MBA from Florida State University. Ann sees unexpected ways things fit together, and encourages collaborations to leverage resources and provide richer experiences in our communities.
Believing in the transformative power of arts experiences, Ann has organized cultural arts programs for local schools and organizations, served on the board of the Talbot County Arts Council, and provided leadership and marketing for a variety of non-profit groups. She has taught children and adults, and has enjoyed taking classes in mosaics, glass fusing, batik, glass blowing, illuminated letters, and Zentangle.
Ann’s background is in science and business, but she’s always been an artist at heart.
Artist's Statement
I enjoy creating whimsical works inspired by my small town & my love for all things tropical. My paper designs of bright colors and playful shapes are all individually cut by hand.
My first creations were large mandalas & small vignettes composed of three-dimensional sailboats, crabs, palm trees, tropical drinks, & flip-flops. Starting with solid colors and basic shapes, I snip and fold until fun details reveal themselves.
My style has evolved into designing bold graphic scenes of local landmarks, including multi-color Chesapeake Bay icons popping from black backgrounds and peaceful summertime chairs set against the bright blue sky of the perfect beach day.
If my images make you smile, they are available on high-quality giclee prints, canvases, greeting cards, coasters, glass cutting boards, throw pillows, and nice necklaces.
I hope my work makes you happy and takes you back to a special day, meaningful place, or important moment.
