About the Artist
Awura-Adzua Cumings is a self-taught mixed-media artist of well over 16 years. Born in Jamaica Queens, New York, but groomed in Baltimore City. She began with formal art education, and decided she didnt want to be confined by the rules and concepts of an art school curriculum. Affectionately known as "Raj", in Charm City. her art is heavily saturated graphite desgins, deep contrasts, evocative hues, with a subtle influence of the dark arts, through her trade in body modification. It appears that her work often has elements of symmetry, and organic flow to them. Finding paralles in obscurity. Her paintings have thier own portals of personality. and each piece created, is always unique one of a kind and different than the next. Raj's visual voice allows the audience to be interactive with each piece; thier textures, and condensation create an emotion that not only is relatable, but is absolutely tactile. The use of crystals and other raw materials within her body of work is a key component to the spiritual significance of her process. Each piece of art created holds spiritual power that is intended to help raise vibration and awareness of what really matters, and helping the audience peer into parallels of obscurity.
