Artist's Statement

BCPT artists pursue three goals, excellence at the art of puppetry, making the unique cultural tradition of puppetry accessible to the widest audience possible, and using puppetry as an educational tool for young people and the broader community.   BCPT approaches its work with the following values: Art and Artists are at the center of all of our work and is central to our mission. Whether stand-alone or integrated into the curriculum, Black Cherry believes art is an essential part of achieving success in school, life, and work. Therefore, we are dedicated to presenting the highest quality educational arts and community programs. We are dedicated to our home theater as an anchor in the Southwest Baltimore Community. We look for every opportunity to support community based activities, buy local goods and services whenever possible, and encourage patronization of neighborhood establishments. We are committed to providing high-quality arts experiences in the City of Baltimore and to communities throughout the Mid Atlantic Region that do not have access to high-quality art. We pursue our art with attention to our planet by reusing materials and adapting recycling principles throughout our work.
