About the Artist

Brooke Lamplough desires to pursue photography professionally and explore installation work further. She has photographed multiple weddings and has worked as a student photographer for Integrated Marketing. She loves to photograph abandoned buidlings and nude photography because of their intimacy. Walking into another person's history is very personal and has stories waiting to be told. Nude photography is very raw and can show the vulnerability or power of the female nude. She creates large scale charcoal drawings with frantic strokes. Her goal as an artist is to create a dialogue about personal taumatic experiences to help validate other survivor's stories. 

Artist's Statement

In the rubble of chaos there are deep rooted experiences waiting to be told. An abandoned building whispers past traumas and ideations into the minds of survivors, reminding them of their strengths and weaknesses. Trauma may lead to a person feeling isolated within an abyss of darkness, a hole that constantly sinks, with their walls tumbling down. My installation ranges from broken glass, cages, to a dirty hospital gown dangling from the ceiling, all surrounding a nude woman that possesses the essence of the preyed and the powerful deer. She interacts with viewers as she clips hearts, growing love for herself again while looking towards the outer world from her mind. Expressive charcoal strokes, thick paint with clumps of dirt, and dark stains all combine together to build the character of the building and figures. All of these components combined breathe the words "I believe you" splayed across a charcoal heart in hopes to strike up a dialogue about abandonment through traumatic experiences such as sexual assault, suicidal ideations, hospitalization, alcoholism, and abuse. This building echoes that survivors are not alone in their experiences and are valid. Trauma may leave a person feeling trapped within a black room with glass enclosing around them, while lying on the stains of memories that live as nightmares.
