Connect people to the magic and beauty of our natural world through fused glass art.

About the Artist

Carolyn Hill is a Maryland-based fused glass artist who weaves her love of nature and world travel into her unique art pieces. Her artistic nature emerged early in life…from kindergarten onwards she could be found drawing, painting, photographing or doing arts and crafts of some kind. Through the years she has worked with a variety of mediums – starting with yarns and fabrics and moving on to batik after traveling to Asia and seeing masters at work with dyes and hot wax. From fabrics she discovered metals and spent years making silver jewelry fashioned after plants, flowers, shells and other natural wonders.  Ms. Hill remains an avid photographer and her works are found throughout homes, businesses and greeting cards across the country. While she enjoys photography, when Carolyn discovered fused glass it was love at first “melt”. Fusing solids into liquids and asking them to flow, provides never-ending possibilities. Her primary source of inspiration comes from nature’s myriad shapes, textures and color palettes. Each piece is made by layer hand-cut glass pieces and kilnforming them through multiple fusings at temperatures ranging up to 1600 degrees. Some of her pieces are 8-9 layers thick, bringing dimensionality to them. And, some pieces are hand-painted with 24kt gold and black metal oxide to create a sense of movement. She has exhibited her work in juried shows including "Alchemy: Sand to Light" at the Washington ArtWorks Gallery in Rockville, Maryland and “Endless Possibilities In Glass” at Maryland Hall of Creative Arts in Annapolis, Maryland. Her glass art is in many private residences throughout the U.S. and Canada. She studies at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Vitrum Studio, and Weisser Glass in Maryland. She is a member of the National Capital Arts Glass Guild.
