About the Artist
Artist's Statement
The thin line that divides the Craft and Fine art worlds is the bridge where I find myself as a maker. The skills that I apply are a combination of things learned in formal education as well as some skills that through self-discovery have allowed me to find my unique voice. Crochet, knitting, sewing, embroidery, sculpture, and painting all find their way into a variety of works. Each piece is an experiment with colors and numbers, slowly taking shape and surprising me as much as I am controlling its growth. The repetition and time taken to create allows for moments to be lost, and the process to become a meditation with an end product. The abstract and recognizable imagery forms an amalgam of everything I hold close to me. I attempt to translate both Personal and Universal experiences through materials and imagery allowing for multiple interpretations. Works present themselves as relating to clothing, textiles, bedding; the materials and process of crochet, sewing and fiber surfaces creating a level of nostalgia and accessibility to the complex metaphors and symbols that materialize from my internal world. I am a maker, who is in love with the labor of making.Featured Work
