About the Artist

National recording Artist Corinthia Cromwell has been known to astound audiences with her skillful and passionate performances as a gospel, jazz, and R&B saxophonist, vocalist, composer, Multi-instrumentalist, and bandleader. With two internationally released CD recordings and three International single releases from her latest recordings under her belt, Corinthia has been established as one of the most anointed musicians of this era. Cromwell has performed on stage and in concert with some of the music industry’s most notable artists to include Grammy winning saxophonist Kirk Whalum, the late Wayman Tisdale, Grammy winning trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, pianist extraordinaire Cyrus Chestnut, Jazz Violinist Ken Ford, jazz saxophonist Marion Meadows, R&B Artist Maysa Leak and K’Jon, Gospel artist Maurette Brown-Clark, The incomparable Clark Sisters, Tramaine Hawkins, Richard Smallwood just to name a few.  As a producer, she has written and produced all of her music as well as music for other artists in the genre of gospel and R&B music. Cromwell performed a 6-week residency at Two River Theater in Red Bank, NJ in the musical “OO-BLA-DEE” that received glowing reviews. This original work was written by Golden Globe Winner Regina Taylor, Directed by Tony Award Winner Ruben Santiago-Hudson with original music by Obie Award Winner Diedre L. Murray. Although music is Cromwell’s true passion, she is multi-talented in the world of entertainment. In the early ’90s Cromwell received roles in major box office hits such as Spike Lee’s film Malcolm X starring Denzel Washington, Reginald Hudlin’s film Boomerang starring Eddie Murphy, and Robin Givens and Chris Rock’s film Head of State starring Chris Rock.  She also appeared in New Image Films’ docu-film entitled “It Has Begun” by Billy Badd.  Other theatrical work of Cromwell’s include “An Afternoon of Vaudeville” in which she directed and played various roles, “A Day In The Life Nursing Home” in which Cromwell wrote as well as composed and arranged the music.  Cromwell is the co-producer of “Beauty & the Beat: Women in Jazz” with Fashion Illustrator Gwen Black.  This work combines two artistic disciplines- music and art which augments the contribution of female instrumentalists, composers, and vocalists in the development of the true art form-Jazz. Cromwell, with her Band performed jazz music written by or made popular by female composers and artists during the tour while Blacks’ work consisted of an exhibit of life-size paintings of great female artists.   She has appeared in numerous magazines and publications to include Downbeat Magazine and in 2003 Cromwell was recognized as one of Black American Music Great Women of Jazz in a literary work by Mark Baszak entitled “Such Sweet Thunder, Views on Black American Music”. Cromwell’s 2011 release of “Peace of Mind, Outside the Lines”, continues to receive rave reviews for the artistry and anointing of this work as this CD “seamlessly marries her twin affection for Gospel and Jazz”. “The record is actually separated into two sides-one of spiritually uplifting praise and worship, one of silky soft jazz. Think of it in terms of vinyl; flip it over and another world is waiting,” says one writer from the All About Jazz publications. Cromwell has performed on several stages to include The Kennedy Center,  the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC, The Modell Performing Arts Center at the Lyric, The Gordon Center for the Performing Arts just to name a few. She has also performed on stage with the amazing Grammy Hall of Famer Martha Reeves and the Vandellas and three-time Grammy-winning Motown recording artists The Temptations. Her self-produced releases in 2016 Trinity 3:1 and Great Day have blessed audiences from all over the world to include UK, Switzerland, Japan, Sweden, Canada and France and Great Day was #1 for 6 weeks in January, 2016 in London. Other accolades and accomplishments of Cromwell include 2011 Up and coming Jazz Artist of the year by the Baltimore Jazz awards,  she was honored in 2008 by Senator Rice of the State of New Jersey and received the Senate Resolution for her significant contributions in the field of entertainment and honored by the NANBPWC, Inc and received the “Living Women History Makers’ Community Award in music. Corinthia is truly an artist that is salt and light and exemplifies the true meaning of “Changing the Atmosphere”.
