My name is Daryl and I’m an animation major at UMBC. I’ve been creating things for most of my life, even before I decided that I wanted to take my art more seriously. Even so, I still believe that the process of creating should be something you should enjoy getting as wacky and wild with as you can. I live by the rule of considering every idea as an artistic challenge no matter how cursed it can get. What I want to work on can be spontaneous as a fire and like an annoying itch, the idea doesn’t stop haunting me until I make it. There are a couple of things I find myself drawn to that end up in both my art and writings, as they tend to often intersect with each other. I find myself drawn to include the decrepit and gutted places that are hidden around us in my work, losing myself in other peoples abandoned nostalgia.
I’m a queer artist and that is reflected in the art I create. There are a lot of thoughts I have about being a queer ace trans person in a society that barely even understands most of those things, let alone accepts it. My goal is to challenge people in how they think and the idea they have of different kinds of queer people. We’re all different and I want to celebrate those differences in my work, and have others celebrate with me too.
About the Artist
I'm Daryl, I'm an artist and animator who has been creating visual works for over 15 years. I live in Columbia with my family and am about to graduate from University of Maryland - Baltimore County. I love including queer themes in my work and merging what I write with what I draw, bringing the characters in my stories to life. I primarily work in animation but also do webcomics, illustrations, and video making.Featured Work
