About the Artist
Dereje Demissie, Weldegeorgis (1982) made his BFA in 2012, in Painting and in Mural arts in 2002 from Alle School of Fine Arts and Design, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He was one of the founders of Nubia Visual Art Studio. Dereje has participated in group exhibitions in Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, Dubai, Germany and here in USA and has had seven solo shows, including the Modern Art Museum of Gebre Kristo Desta in2022 and the National Museum of Ethiopia in 2013. He moved to the US in 2016, where he continued his artistic practices and currently, he is working as an art instructor at Carpe Diem Arts in addition to his studio activities. "My work examines the relationship between the human psyche and its surrounding environment. Painting allows me to enter a state of mind in which I can easily exist and reflect on the events of life that I have experienced + ing.
