About the Artist

I was born in Moscow, Russia, where I graduated from the Moscow City Pedagogical University with Masters degree in Arts Education. While living in Moscow, I was employed by a number of Russian publishing houses and worked on various projects that included book covers, drawings, holiday cards and postcards. I also was a member of the Moscow Union of the Artists, where I participated in a number of national art exhibitions. Since 2000 I have lived with my family in the Washington, D.C. area where I focused most of my artistic energy on painting. During a certain amount of time, I have concentrated my work on watercolor art pieces. From 2001 to 2004 I was a member of the Baltimore Watercolor Association and participated in several juried watercolor exhibitions organized by the Association. Later, I started working on a larger scale pieces using oil and acrylic. I also expanded my area of expertise to include monotypes and silk prints. From 2007 to 2012 my art works were represented by Touchstone Gallery and were part of multiple group exhibitions. I also had two solo shows in 2010, 2012.

Artist's Statement

My latest works – they are mainly abstractions. But not quite. I call them associative abstractions as they are often associated with some kind of natural phenomenon, life event or figurative representation. They are made using mixed media: first acrylic or oil paint is used, then drawing done by pencil, ink and marker. I think that different materials complement one another and make for an interesting contrast.
