About the Artist
I was born in Moscow, Russia, where I graduated from the Moscow City Pedagogical University with Masters degree in Arts Education. While living in Moscow, I was employed by a number of Russian publishing houses and worked on various projects that included book covers, drawings, holiday cards and postcards. I also was a member of the Moscow Union of the Artists, where I participated in a number of national art exhibitions. Since 2000 I have lived with my family in the Washington, D.C. area where I focused most of my artistic energy on painting. During a certain amount of time, I have concentrated my work on watercolor art pieces. From 2001 to 2004 I was a member of the Baltimore Watercolor Association and participated in several juried watercolor exhibitions organized by the Association. Later, I started working on a larger scale pieces using oil and acrylic. I also expanded my area of expertise to include monotypes and silk prints. From 2007 to 2012 my art works were represented by Touchstone Gallery and were part of multiple group exhibitions. I also had two solo shows in 2010, 2012.Dina Volkova website View Website Dina Volkova website Purchase Art
Artist's Statement
My latest works – they are mainly abstractions. But not quite. I call them associative abstractions as they are often associated with some kind of natural phenomenon, life event or figurative representation. They are made using mixed media: first acrylic or oil paint is used, then drawing done by pencil, ink and marker. I think that different materials complement one another and make for an interesting contrast.Featured Work

After Sunset
Oil on canvas
2020
In this series of works, I wanted to combine spontaneous abstraction and precise planar forms. This was thought to be a non-objective experiment, but in the course of the process some figures started to pop up. It is their right to do so. I am not one to hinder.

Oil panting on canvas
2021
I have evolved as a painter in terms of the things that I’m interested in and the techniques that I use. Due to this metamorphosis, I have slowly transitioned to a larger format. I wanted to combine everything that I love and everything that I know, as well as learn something along the way. That is how this series of works was born, which was created with the utmost joy. I hope that this joy is tangible and can be felt by others.
