About the Artist
Dustin "Jake" Mays started writing screenplays as a teenager, yearning to create works more relatable than what he was exposed to in rural West Virginia. His early gigs as a director came in the form of music videos and concert films for local hip hop acts. He studied creative English writing and minoring in tv/commercial production at Concord University (Athens, Wv) before moving on to majoring in film/tv directing at Academy of Art University (San Francisco, Ca).
After spending nearly a decade in California, Mays returned to the east coast. He currently resides in Frostburg, Md, where he continues to develop low/no budget works that toy with cinematic tropes and utilizing characters that aren't often seen as protagonists. His current project "Appalachian Hipsters" is being crafted with longtime collaborators JW Myers and Ty DeMartino.
