BIO of Donato Soranno
Performing Experience:
Donato is an operatic Tenor, who performed the following operatic roles: Ferrando in Cosi Fan Tutte; Basilio & Don Curzio in Le Nozze di Figaro; Spoletta in Tosca; Benoit in La Boheme [Puccini]; Marco, Spinelloccio, the Notario,& Pinellino in Gianni Schicchi; Vincenzo in Marin Falliero; Spiridione in Il Campanello; Monostatos in Die Zauberflote; Giuseppe, Commissionaire, Servant in La Traviata; Becero, and Signor on the First Floor in La Boheme [Leoncavallo]. Donato performed solo roles with two opera companies in Italy and with opera companies in New York City & the Washington, DC area. He performed in over 40 staged opera productions and in numerous concerts with the Washington Concert Opera, The American Center for Puccini Studies, Annapolis Opera, Summer Opera of Washington, Tri-Cities Opera, Opera Bel Canto, Opera Camerata, Washington Civic Opera, Opera International, & Opera IV. Donato is the Director and Tenor soloist of the Cantanti Singing Ensemble that presents concerts throughout Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC. At various venues, he served as the Director and Producer of musical programs and video-taped the performances. He edited the shows and aired them on his weekly TV Series. In addition, he produced, edited and video-taped performances of other organizations and aired them on his TV series. As a recording artist, he recorded his musical programs that are available on DVDs and CDs. He studies vocal technique with Dr. Harry Dunstan.
Teaching Experience:
Donato teaches Opera Appreciation courses at Montgomery College in Maryland and Arlington Community Learning in Arlington, VA. He focuses on aspects of opera performances and production on the opera stage and off stage. He highlights the learning process and practices, for opera singers and instrumentalists in the orchestra, to perform at the highest quality level. The course titles are: [1] Opera Masterpieces: The Best Operas by Verdi, The Best Operas by Puccini, The Best Operas by Wagner and The Best Operas by Donizetti, [2] Opera Divas, [3] Famous Operatic Tenors and [4] Famous Operatic Baritones and Basses. In staged opera productions, Donato has coached and prepared opera singers in singing, acting and interpreting their respective roles. He also assisted singers with the Italian language required in Italian operas and Italian musical programs. In Rome, Italy, Donato was the Assistant Stage Director of an opera company where he coached opera singers in the staging and acting aspects of the opera as well as helping the singers master the role or character to be portrayed.
In the field of Information Technology, Donato served as the Regional Director of Computer Science Institute, a private school, that offered computer programming courses. He also taught computer programming languages in the Graduate School at Marywood University and the Department School of Agriculture. In the Federal government, he developed and taught courses in auditing and evaluating software, hardware and information systems in the field of Information Technology.
Education and Training:
Donato studied vocal techniques at Montgomery College in Maryland and the art of singing and acting in various operatic scenes at the Levine School of Music. He attended numerous musical workshops and master classes that focused on vocal production, techniques and performance. He also earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration [MBA] and a B.S. degree in Business Administration. Currently, Donato studies vocal techniques and performance with Dr. Harry Dunstan. In addition, Donato completed courses and was certified as a TV Producer, a TV editor and a computer systems analyst in the field of Information Technology.
