About the Artist
Duke Porter (Duke) is a Baltimore native and “artivist”. He is a member of the SGL spoken word collaborative Sons of Baldwin who co-authored the book of poems “Baldwin Sent Me.” He is a teaching artist for DewMore Baltimore in addition to being responsible for leading trainings, workshops, and organizing cultural events that promote the excellence and wellness of Black people across the gender and sexuality spectrum. His passion for building and uniting Black people has allowed him to be a voice for his community nationally. He is currently the 3 time winner of the Mary Bowman DC Black Pride Poetry Slam, aSoFried Poetry Slam Team regional in Texas and Stonewall International Poetry Slam Finalist. "Baldwin Sent Me" became a highlighted book in the Baltimore Book Festival in 2019.
