About the Artist

Fahimeh Vahdat is an Iranian American mixed media installation and performance artist living in Columbia, Maryland. As an activist artist, Vahdat’s work focuses on human rights / women & children’s rights violation especially domestic violence in Iran and the United States. Vahdat’s work has been exhibited not only in the USA but also in Argentina, Italy, Poland, China, the United Arab Emirates, India, Turkyeh, and South Africa. Vahdat has received numerous grants, recently from Deutsch Foundation and the Maryland State Individual Artist Award. Recently, Vahdat was one of the 6 finalists for the Bakers Artist Award for second time in 2023 & 22. She also was nominated for the Anonymous Was a Woman Award, 2022. Vahdat’s art is a part of private and public collections. Vahdat’s work has been published in several books and magazines most recently, The Little Patuxent Review and Printmaking: Off the Beaten Track. Vahdat received her MFA from Southern Methodist University and has been a professor of Fine Arts at various educational institutions in the USA. Currently Vahdat is the Director of Visiting Artist Program and professor at Howard Community College. Fahimeh Vahdat is regularly invited to present her artwork at various educational institutions to engage the public in discussion, sharing stories to find positive ways to eradicate roots of violence especially domestic violence.
