About the Artist

Soul & Ink is the brainchild of husband and wife design team, Frankie and Sherry Meneses. Passionate about design for social change, they sought to step away from the isolation of computer life and into the community, bringing brands and missions to life. They were inspired to create a mobile screen printing set-up after seeing how thrilled their friends were at screen printing parties they hosted at home. Soul & Ink’s participatory live screen printing experiences reshape traditional relationships between art and audiences through modern aesthetic and vintage technique. They provide a fun, educational and interactive art experience at events and workshops. Activating any space with they mobile screen printing unit, ink, apparel and custom designs. Their dream is to create artwork that can be shared with anyone, anywhere. They believe in community engagement, creative placemaking and design for social change. Soul & Ink is a multi-disciplinary creative studio specializing in experiential marketing for events, custom screen printing and full graphic design services. Together they have over forty years of graphic design experience on both the east & west coast respectively prior to starting their own business. From concept to event, Soul & Ink delivers consistently impressive strategic design on budget and on time. They have worked with non-profits, private corporations, small businesses and museums and collaborating with creative designers, artists and agencies such as Apple, Adidas, Discovery, Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center, Smithsonian Folklife Festival, Freer | Sackler Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, The Clarice and more.

Artist's Statement

Frankie’s artistic style is informed by his bicoastal travels. Spending his formative years on the East Coast, he was raised immersed in 90’s hip-hop and rave culture, inspiring him to become a designer. After college he moved to Los Angeles and fell in love with the West Coast surf & skate style and modern street art. He specializes in vector based illustration and DIY screen printing. Frankie’s professional background ranges from working with small design boutiques, real estate firms, a high end luxury skincare & wellness company to government contracting where he designed publications, event graphics, flyers and more with a team of designers. Prior to founding Soul & Ink, Frankie honed valuable production skills as a prepress manager at a print house, where he learned precision, efficiency and the ins and outs of running a shop from the ground up. Sherry was raised in a print and design studio that her father owned. Design is in her blood. Since then she has developed a career focused on intersecting design and social change for education, civil rights and workers rights organizations. She is the recipient of a Gold and Bronze Spotlight Award for Print, Video & Web Communications for branding and collateral developed for the National HIV Testing and Mobilization Campaign, creating outreach materials for six specific demographics. Prior to Soul & Ink, she led two design teams, serving as an essential member of an Integrated Marketing and Events department and a Public Relations team. Her expertise lies in strategic communication, event branding and marketing for national campaigns, annual conferences, galas and celebrity studded tv award shows earning her an American InHouse Design Award.
