Artist's Statement

Traditional Chinese landscape paintings are primarily built on brush strokes using black ink, a style inspired by the tranquil Taoist philosophy. The ink brush stroke is the major element, where I have added a new dimension to my work, yet retained the feeling of the traditional Chinese landscape by collaging my own calligraphy. The collage, which allows the creation of multiple layers and texture, is not used in the Chinese painting process. The writing, poems by my Great Uncle, is obscured and only meaningful to me.
