About the Artist
Genie is an expatriate artist born in Seoul, South Korea, and is a first-generation American. She attended the Corcoran School of Art and the Fashion Institute of Technology. Genie holds a (BA) East Asian Studies from the University of Maryland and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Studio Art from American University in Washington, D.C. where she received the Ruth Meixner-Bird Scholarship, the Robyn Rafferty Mathias Research Grants, and the Stanley G. Wolpoff Award. She is an awardee of the Arts & Humanities Council of Montgomery County (AHCMC) Artists & Scholars Project Grant FY25. Her work has been shown internationally and local exhibitions include museums and galleries throughout the DMV area: Strathmore Arts, Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center, The Universities at Shady Grove, Frederick Arts Council, McLean Project for the Arts, American University Museum, Transformer DC, Touchstone Gallery, IA&A at Hillyer, The Line DC... Permanent collections include the American University Museum and Sotheby's International. Recently, Genie completed an artist residency at JOYA: arte + ecología, located in the Almería region of Andalucía, Spain, further expanding her engagement with cross-cultural themes and interdisciplinary practices. She is currently a resident artist at Hamiltonian Artists located in the historic U Street Corridor of Washington, D.C.Featured Work
