About the Artist
While attending St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Hailley has been studying a range of art mediums and practices. Throughout her undergrad education Hailleys primary art medium practice is through painting. She focuses on capturing animal forms with human characteristics. While painting these animals, Hailley reflects on past experiences and emotions that can be translated into animal figures. With the use of color theory, Hailley practices placing color relationships throughout the surface of the canvas making it cohesive. Hailley also incorporates color associations with environments in backgrounds to set animals in their natural habitat. While majoring in studio art, Hailley also minored in Educational Studies. Hailley set up her college academic classes so that she could learn and understand the use of multiple art mediums. With a large range of art classes under her belt, Hailley is set to teach art in grades K-12. Looking into the future Hailley is on track to graduate from the St. Mary’s Masters in teaching program in 2020. After graduation Hailley is planning on stay in the St. Mary’s region to teach art in public schools. During the last few months Hailley has had the opportunity to have work shown in the St. Mary's College of Maryland Boyden Art Gallery where she was able to display a triypich of black and white triangular prints. Following this art show she was also able to show paintings in the St. Mary's College of Maryland hall wall exhibits.Artist's Statement
Within my works I am interested in capturing daily human activities and emotions within animals that pop from the surface of the canvas. On large scale canvases these animals are surrounded by color choices and relationships based on color theory to set them in an environment. I use these animal characteristics to portray the human experience. From choosing between flat color associated backgrounds, or evenly color balanced environments these animals are pressed against the intersecting human experience and animal form.Featured Work

This is one portion of a large scaled diptych. The other half f this image is a large female giraffe hovering over her child.
Expanding the Well
Acrylic
2018
Within Hailley’s painting Expanding the Well she focuses on capturing her personal experience by using a bold color contrast to distinguish breaking boundaries and entering a new reality.
Expanding the Well was inspired by the Japanese saying “Jing Di Zhi Wa” which translates to frog from the bottom of the well. This expression comes from a fable about a frog that has lived its entire life in a small well. The frog assumes that its tiny world is all there is, and it has no idea of the true size of the world. It is only when a passing turtle tells the frog of the great ocean to the east that the frog realizes there is much more to the world than it had known.

9-5 Work Day
Acrylic
2018
Within my acrylic painting, 9-5 Work Day, I created a four square clock determining the time and emotion of an average work day with animal portraits. With the use of color relationships associated with that animals geographical location viewers can imagine that these cartoon animals are stationed at home. Smaller color relationships within the ties pull together the image as a whole to show more human characteristics. This painting is just a taste of my perception on the daily work cycle.
