Artist's Statement
My recent artwork reflects my immigration to the United States. My work highlights the colors and textures of my homeland with my feelings of “Saudade” (passionate homesickness). The works arrangement is thematic based on the contrast of rural, urban and political motifs from my native Brazil. Brazil can be a study in the juxtaposition of intense natural beauty and the banality of color in urban living. The glyph like symbols in my work acknowledge the Brazilian Pichadores, Brazilian graffiti artist who readily point out the social and financial disparities in urban Brazilian living. Finally, my work is a celebration of transitions of place and mood in global living.
