About the Artist
My name is Iyana Brumfield and I am 17 years old. I started dancing at the age of 8 under the leadership of Lakeisha Johnson, director of Fearless Dance Empire. Through her teaching, I found my voice and my power through dance. Dance has given me the power to overcome bullying , depression and low self- esteem. Dance is my voice and I can no longer be silent. Dance is healing. Dance is love. Dance is therapy for the hurting. I want to share my story, my purpose and my gift with the youth of the city. I want them to understand the power of dreaming and believing in yourself. Recently, I have been newly crowned " Miss Black Talented Teen for Baltimore City". It's truly an honor to represent Baltimore city with such a prestigious title. In August, I will represent the state of Maryland to compete for the national crown. I want to make our city proud, but most importantly, I want my peers to truly understand we have the power to make an impact that can change the world.
