Artist's Statement

I like to walk. I don’t need any equipment, I just go. I walk in the same areas again and again, becoming more and more aware of my surroundings with each turn. It is a process of understanding where I’ve been and where I am, so I can ask, “Where do I go?” As with walking, I don’t need a lot of equipment to draw. I can just begin. And as each step shapes the next, each line affects the following line. However, if walking is about my connection with physical space, drawing is about exploring within, walking the paths of my self. The more I walk, the more I find. The roots of these images come from my garden and my home, begun after navigating a significant personal sea change. They are maps of my environment, internal and external. Each mark I make is an intentional step forward, an answer to the question “What now?”
