About the Artist
Jennifer Kahn Barlow is an award winning oil painter. Her works are intimate, bold, and focus on the sweeter things in life: confectionery and nature. Jennifer shows her work throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Jennifer has been featured in the Washingtonian and Professional Artist magazines. Her paintings reside in the collections of The District of Columbia, Cookology Culinary School (Arlington, VA), along with numerous private collections. Jennifer grew up in a food-loving family in the Boston suburbs and obtained a B.A. from Skidmore College, but has called Washington, DC home since 1999. She currently seeks inspiration from grocery stores and pastry shops in the DC region, while working out of her home studio in Potomac, MD.Artist's Statement
I typically immortalize life’s most delicious moments in oil on canvas. My passion for painting food and confections, most notably the French Macaron, has been aimed at sharing the state of joy, awe, and sweetness that life exudes. Since the start of the pandemic, my appetite for sweets has waned and my focus has shifted to the natural beauty in the region. As time slowed to a halt and the gnawing need to escape the confines of my home, I have spent more time outside: hiking, gardening, and discovering local natural treasures. A renewed appreciation, awe, and energy for the natural environment has taken shape and manifested its way into my work, and my life as a whole. One great gift of the pandemic has been my reintroduction to the outside world and all its beauty, one which I aim to share.Featured Work

Summer Refreshment
oil on canvas
2016
It’s not just that Victoria Lai has the most interesting ice cream flavors in Washington. She might pair Snickers and snickerdoodles, or pumpkin and honeycomb. And then there’s the great culinary wink to Washington: Marionberries. But really, it’s that there’s always something a little subversive about ice cream with booze in it. I’ll take my gin and tonic — or dark and stormy, or grapefruit and Campari — in a cone, please.
