We need more empathy and stillness yet those things are so hard to come by in a noisy and chaotic world. I want to challenge viewers to look a little longer and deeper into my work to find a transcendent space where the noise of the world quiets for a moment longer.
I am interested in using context, texture, and the quality of light to find a compelling reason to stay and observe the essence of my subjects. As I bring these aesthetic elements into my paintings I hope to enliven one's senses and bring vitality and freshness to the work. I am drawn to the illusory effect of creating form without being too literal — leaving space for the viewer’s imagination.
As the creator of a piece of art, the process of finding interesting color and design elements to create illusion is fully engaging. This captivating experience has the effect of blocking out other noises that can distract from the work and provides additional purpose to the experience.
