Joanna Macaulay

About the Artist

Joanna Macaulay has been an amateur photographer since 1981.  She co-founded the St. Mary’s County Camera Club in 1998 with her husband, Jim.  She photographs events, travel, pet, and nature photography.  Her photos have been on display at the Lexington Park Library Art Gallery, the Southern Maryland Higher Ed. Center, Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, Medstar St. Mary’s Hospital, The University System of Maryland at Southern Maryland, Patuxent River Naval Air Museum, and Annmarie Garden.   She enjoys photographing the River Concert Series for the Chesapeake Orchestra programs and her work has also been published in the St. Mary’s County Times, The Calvert County Times, PropTalk magazine and The Baynet.  Her photographic style is generally colorful, with a strong simplified subject and an awareness of line and shape.  Joanna began Calm Reflections Photography in April 2009 and has won numerous awards.

An old boat sitting in a creek in St. Mary's County, MD made a beautiful addition to the colorful leaves of autumn. Photographed in the late afternoon with a lovely calm reflection in the quiet waters. Used on a cover of the River Concert Series program. Official posters are also available.
We had a bad snow storm in February 2010. The snow was coming down fast and furious and this little cardinal was puffed up and trying to stay warm even with ice on its' face. Photographed in St. Mary's County, MD. One of my most popular images since folks like it for holiday cards.

Allset Restaurant in Silver Spring,MD was always prepared for the Covid-19 crisis. I was amused to find this "work of art" in their Ladies room and obtained permission from them to use their wall of toilet paper. I liked the break in the pattern of rolls.
