Joel Turner

About the Artist

Joel Turner is an artist from Towson, Maryland working as a figure painter. Joel received his Associates in Fine Arts in 2013 from Delaware College of Art and Design, and received his Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2015.

Artist's Statement

My work is about creating figurative paintings with a mixed media painting in mind. I think of my work as abstract, even though I paint figures and real people because the intent of the painting is to combine mixed media elements to create an interesting effect with different media, and hopefully capture a figure's essence and emotions. Painting is my main discipline, but this method of working leads me to use all types of media in my work such as ink, charcoal and dry media, mixing different types of paints, and using collage elements.
