About the Artist
John Sybert is a Maryland-based writer, publisher and cultural archivist. As creator of Insider, a late 80's to early 90's self-published newsletter, documenting the Baltimore, Columbia and Washington DC punk scenes, he developed a DIY philosophy emphasizing authenticity, community and independent storytelling. While writing his current book, he has expanded Insider into an archival project featuring newsletters, photographs, flyers and oral histories, preserving the underground cultural history. Sybert's work engages audiences through writing, multimedia and interactive platforms, connecting personal narrative with regional events. His project reflects a lifelong commitment to independent arts, creative resilience and community engagement, embodying the ethos of punk DIY culture while reaching contemporary readers.
