About the Artist
Joseph Corcoran is a Baltimore based installation artist. He mainly employs glass and neon in his work. As a former Naval Officer, he saw glass-making firsthand while stationed in Italy and Malta. Upon returning stateside, he spent over 14 years learning, teaching and exhibiting his work across the nation. He has executed many public and private pieces including recently installing a piece at the US Ambassador’s residence in Beijing, China. Joe received a Bachelor’s in Mathematics from the US Naval Academy and is currently in a Masters in Fine Art's program at Maryland Institute College of ArtFeatured Work

The Blue Fine Line

The Blue Fine Line comprises of 10 separate blown pieces that fit together to give the illusion that the piece is intermingled. Pieces are blown, formed, polished and the wall composition developed.
Red Carriers

Individual forms were blown and polished. Solid glass balls were made to fit into the pieces and solid hook pieces were also created. All the pieces were connected to wire to provide space to breath. Metal Brackets were fabricated to hold the wall composition.

Forms were blown, cut and polished using dark purple glass. White tubes were fabricated at specific lengths and charged with argon. Argon tubes were placed inside the blown forms. Metal brackets were fabricated and wall composition was developed with cords.
Remains

Remains began with me blowing the glass forms. Upon annealing, the pieces were cut and polished. Last, I acid etched the pieces and then used a spray silver mirroring formula consisting of silver reducer, activator and silver solution. Brackets were fabricated and the wall composition developed.
