Joseph E. Criscuoli

Painting, Visual / Media

For me, painting is a simple exercise in the elimination of tension and, if you enjoy what I’ve created; if what you see gives you reason to smile or causes a bit of surprise, then my day is a bit brighter. Art is what I make and, more importantly, what you make of it. I hope that you enjoy my work with paint, canvas and a few (sometimes very small) brushes.

About the Artist

I first picked up a paintbrush in 1979, while an undergraduate at the University of Maryland at College Park. For a majority of my professional career, I was employed in the business side of the world of art. I have thus been forced to privately pursue my love of painting in my very infrequent spare time. I have been a resident of Laurel since 1991 and guests in my home often remark that I should attempt to show my work in a forum such as the one I am requesting. Almost all those who see my work are surprised to learn that I work in acrylics. I have had the opportunity to show a few pieces of my work and I enjoyed the experience very much. As it is now 47 years since I began painting, I would very much like to have the opportunity for others to see a larger representation of my work. Thank you for your kind consideration.  A more complete portfolio may be seen at www.JosephCriscuoli.com

Artist's Statement

Upon seeing my work, many are surprised that I use acrylic paints and have asked why I have not tried oil-based paints. Acrylics are my chosen medium because they don’t require the use of solvents that smell up the house – nor do they ignite very easily.
