My art is largely a means to and/or a byproduct of self- exploration. My goal is to learn every day and to do meaningful work while retaining the wonder and pleasure in creation that I recall from childhood—I view play as a valuable element in the creative process.
About the Artist
Julia K. Burzon is an artist of traditional and digital media. Early published work includes pen and ink illustration for Iowa State University Extension publications, scientific illustrations in peer-reviewed journals, and and commissioned projects (ex. photography and creation of a wall calendar). Returning to art as a serious pursuit m in 2019, after a long hiatus working in natural resources administration and raising a family, Julia embarked on a quest to master digital painting from 2020–2021 by learning how to use all’s various capabilities via the framework of apple-themed artworks. For more about that project, see https://appleaday4u.blogspot.com. After that yearlong project of posting an apple artwork each day, and following participation on a local plein air event, Julia switched gears to focus more on traditional analog fine arts media (vs. digital). With her hands in a little bit of everything, Julia's work is quite varied. Most recent work has been either acrylic painting (plein air and studio) and photography. Some project themes include circles, water, female archetypes, tarot cards, still-lifes, and landscapes.Julia K Burzon website Julia’s art shop via Ko-fi.com Julia K Burzon website An Apple A Day — Daily Art Blog Julia K Burzon website Artrepreuer.com Profile
Artist's Statement
I am a self-taught artist who has come full circle from pursuing art as a student and doing some early illustration, through setting it aside for other academic, personal, and professional pursuits, returning to it informally through art therapy, and finally picking it back up again as a professional pursuit in recent years. When not creating just for the enjoyment of the process (I place a high value on play and learning, which is why I have not yet settled down to specialize in one medium), I continue to use art to continue to explore my psychological and emotional landscape and am keenly interested in both the process and products of that pursuit. Other themes of interest include the experience of women not meeting western societal standards of beauty with regard to body shape, age, or coloration; archetypes of the divine feminine; the place of the human species in the ecology of the planet and our experience as animals; anthropomorphization of nature; as well as ageless commonalities in the human experience such as the feelings of connection, expansiveness, and wonder.Featured Work
