About the Artist
Soprano Keesun Kwon, a McF'ami Artist, received her doctoral and masters of music degree from the Catholic University of America. She received her bachelor of music degree from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. Additionally, she studied at the Columbia University. She was invited to perform at the Italian embassy and the Korean Embassy for the Christmas Concert. Ms. Kwon appeared as a soprano soloist for the Millennium Stage concert 'Songs of the Forgotten War' at the Kennedy Center and as a soloist with Hines-Lee Opera Ensemble for the Opera Gala concert, Susie Kim Memorial Concert at The Terrace Theatre at Kennedy Center. She made her oratorio debut by singing Brahmes' Ein Deutches Requiem, Haydn's Lard Nelson Mass, Handel's Foundling Hospital Anthem with Harford Choral Society, Ann Arundel Choral Society, Bach Christmas Oratorio with Bach Concert and Mozart's Vesperae Solennes de Confessore with FMMC Chorale. Ms. Kwon made her New York debut with Gateway Classical Music Society, Riverside Opera Company and Vocal Production in New York. She participated in many master classes throughout the US, including lessons with Elly Ameling, John Shirly-Quirh, Graham Johnson, Martin Kats and many others. She won 3rd place of the National Anthem contest aud sang the National Anthem at the event of Star Spangled Spectacular 2014. She is a grant recipient of the Individual Artist Award from Maryland Arts Council, Baltimore Arts & Humanities, an award winner in the Gerda Lissner Foundation in New York and a recipient of the Peabody Career Development Grant. She was a first place winner of the Paul Robeson Vocal Competition (Urban Philharmonic Society). Russell C. Wonderlic Memorial Competition, Vincent P. Walter Washington Summer Opera Guild Competition, Baltimore Music Club Competition, Marie E Crump Vocal Arts Competition and Annapolis Opera Competition.
